3D Prototyping

If you have come up with a great idea and are looking into the product development process, you are probably aware that you will need a prototype of your new invention.

Some prototypes can be made of fabric, foam, or cardboard but, in the majority of cases, prototypes are 3D printed. You will need 3D prototyping of your project in the final stages before manufacturing or even at the beginning for testing. The level of detail of a 3D prototype is so close to manufacturing parts that it is the perfect way to verify accuracy, size, mechanics, and ergonomics. Prior to production, the prototypes can also be finished and used as casting, sales, and promotional models.

From Ideas to Prototypes

In order to print your idea, we need to translate it into a CAD drawing. Here at Spark Innovations we use two types of 3D software: Catia and Solid Works. Once your concept is a CAD model, we can do just about anything with it. From the CAD model we can generate 2D or technical drawings, renderings, animations, videos, and 3D prototyping.  For 3D printing, our product development team uses a top-of-the-line PolyJet Objet 30–a high-resolution 3D printer that can build models and prototypes with ultra-precise details.

3D Prototyping Your Concepts

The process of 3D prototyping your idea can be very simple or very complex. The form and size define the level of complexity, but unless your project is very large and does not fit in the 3D printer, there is no form we cannot print for you. Tiny pieces like those shown in the image below, cylindrical items, or intricate structures can all be 3D printed.

Because we have our own 3D prototyping machine and the design team to make your idea a reality, we can provide you with quotes quickly and accurately.

Whether you need a functioning prototype, conceptual model, or finished part for marketing or a retail pitch, we can help. A great example of a functioning prototype we created here at Spark is this Drywall Axe. You cannot tell the difference between this initial prototype and the real manufacturing part.
