Stock Design

The Excalibur TwinStrike crossbow is the first of its kind double arrow crossbow ever produced in the industry. The primary objective is this project was to design a crossbow capable of shooting two arrows simultaneously, allowing for increased accuracy, faster reloading, and improved target penetration. The team at Spark was tasked with designing the stock portion of the crossbow. The Stock is the main housing that comprises the pistol grip, a butt stock, trigger guard, fore-grip and rail retaining body.

Lightweight & Durable

The main focus of the project for Spark was to combine the styling and industrial design of the stock with functional weight reducing and geometry strengthening techniques. Strategic rib placement and FEA analyzed cutouts were added to the design to reduce weight and increase strength to maximize performance and experience.

Grip Designs

The stock features custom TPU grips the utilize ergonomic measurements and conform to the standards needed to maintain a safe interaction with the product. The grips and decorative features strategically hide cutouts and technical features that reduce weight and increase strength.

The ergonomics of the for-grip the TwinStrike stock were extensively tested and redesigned several times to provide maximum comfort while maintaining size and geometry requirements to pass finger safety regulations.

Concept Development

Several rounds of 2D illustration concepts were created to capture a wide range of looks and styles. Designs were refined and adjusted to reflect the clients vision for the project. Early hand and feature positioning measurements guided the design team to create concepts that were accurate in scale and proportion. These dimensions helped to shape the CAD surfacing in later stages. The entire 3D portion of the project was created in Solidworks
